<div dir="ltr"> <strong>Goodbye Treaty</strong> by <strong>Ed Swena</strong> - The Lakota warrior is portrayed with one of the Andrew Johnson peace medals which had been initiated by George Washington. They were awarded to notable Native Americans as a sign of good faith between the U.S. Government and them. <div>In the Treaty of 1868, the Lakota Indians were granted a portion of the Northern Plains including the Black Hills. The treaty became meaningless when gold was discovered and the result was war, which included the West's most famous clash, The Battle of the Little Big Horn.</div> <div>The bronze shows the warrior had worn the metal with pride. Then realized the deception and scornfully ripped it from his neck.</div> </div>
