Large contemporary wood sculpture carved from tulip wood depicting a <strong>Mythical-like human form</strong> by<strong> J Figueroa</strong>. Covered from head to toe in linear and geometric design, reminiscent of traditional M + I culture the fish hook is called a Hei Matau and is said to represent strength, prosperity, good luck in protection from the sea. It is a prominent motif found in several traditional M + artifacts. The figure is an excellent condition and mounted on a wood support with the artist signature. It is a finally carved work of contemporary art and the price of 10,000 USD was paid for it in 1982.
